ITTA BENA, Mississippi — The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes won their sixth consecutive contest and their home opener with a 8-0 win over the visiting Southeastern Louisiana Lions.
MVSU scored two tuns in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The second inning scored was fueled by Shana Ladner’s second home run of the season — a two-run blast over the right center field wall. Runs in the third inning came courtest of a RBI-single by Ladner and a RBI-triple by Taylor Pleasant. Alex Robertson had a RBI single in the fourth inning while Pleasant scored on a throwing error in the fifth inning.
Robertson finished the game going 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Ladner went 2-for-3 with three runs driven in.
Kim Spivey (6-9) worked five innings allowing three hits and striking out six. Spivey, along with Robertson, were recently honored by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as Pitcher and Player of the Week.
The Devilettes will host Alabama A&M in a divisional series this Friday and Saturday.
