HOUSTON, Texas – The 2011 outdoor track season kicked off on Saturday as the Prairie View A&M men participated in the annual TSU Relays on the campus of Texas Southern University.
William Donelson brought home the gold with first-place finishes in both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles with times of 14.59 and 53.29, respectively. Evan James placed eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:58.58 while Abel Simie finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run (9:22.27).
The 4×100-meter relay team of Terry Gilbert, DQuezstyn Coleman, Brandon Samples and Robert Williams placed third after clocking 40.92. The 4×400-meter relay team (Edgar Smith, Robert Williams, Evan James, Vernon Lewis) placed fourth with a run of 3:18.65 while the sprint medley relay of Robert Williams, Jaymon Levels, Vernon Lewis and Evan James logged a second-place time of 3:26.45.
In the field, the Panthers picked up where they left off after indoor season with two first-place performances.
Pierre Shepherd won the high jump with a length of 6-10 followed by Devion Harris’ second place jump of 6-06. Reginald Trotter and Preston Woodard rounded out the event as both tied for fifth after jumps of 6-02.75.
In the triple jump, PV dominated the event as they finished 1-2-3 with Woodard capturing the gold after a jump of 50-04.75. Chanette finished second after jumping 48-02 while Shanton Gore placed third with a mark of 48-0. Brennen Jackson also finished fifth as he recorded a mark of 47-02.25.
The Panthers return to the track on Saturday at 9 a.m. as they participate in the annual Hoover Wright-Barbara Jacket PV relays on the campus of Prairie View A&M.
