The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devil baseball team swept the visiting Alabama A&M Bulldogs in divisional action at Magnolia Field on the campus of MVSU.
Weekend scorers were 11-1, 12-4 (Saturday doubleheader) and 11-0 (Sunday).
Game #1: MVSU wins 11-1 (first game of Saturday doubleheader)
The Delta Devils scored multiple runs in the first, third, fourth and eightth innings while plating a solo run in the sixth inning as MVSU opened the series with a win.
Jerry Hildredth went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two runs batted in while Curtis Ford went 2-for-4. Michael Lowe finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Eric Dowell (2-3) worked seven innings allowing four hits, one run and a walk while striking out nine.
Game #2: MVSU wins 12-4 (second game of doubleheader)
MVSU opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning before AAMU scored four rins in the top of the second. The Devils rebounded with four runs in the bottom of the third inning, two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh.
Matt Burton went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Derek Wallace finished 3-for-5 with two runs batted in. Scott Hornstra finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored, three RBI (two on a two-run blast over the left field wall in the bottom of the first). Michael Lowe scored three times and drove in two runs.
Game #3: MVSU wins 11-0 (Sunday single-game action)
A six-run second inning along with a four-run fourth frame paced the Delta Devils to the shutout win.
Jerry Hildredth went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Scott Hornstra went 2-for-3 with a run scored (a home run) and three runs driven in. Matt Burgon also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Steven Barnes worked five innings of three-hit baseball striking out five for the win. Kameron Stady worked two innings striking out three.
