swacbwlBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) announced its All-SWAC Bowling Teams on Tuesday. Chantel Jefferson (Texas Southern) was named SWAC Player of the Year and
Alabama A&M’s Camille Collins earned Freshman of the Year honors.

Jefferson, a senior from Cleveland, Ohio, averaged 198.0 pins, a league-high, in 26 SWAC games this season. She totaled 5,147 pins in conference action highlighted by a high-game of 262 rolled during the East Roundup. Collins aided the Bulldogs to an 11-1 mark in league play and the SWAC Eastern Division title.

The  freshman from Chicago, Ill. averaged 182.9 pins in 20 games this season and had a high-game of 223. Joining Jefferson and Collins on the All-SWAC First-Team are Addileen Pointer (Alabama A&M), Melanie DeCarlo (Alabama A&M), Shannon Pearson (Southern) and Jazmin Payne (Alabama A&M).

Alabama A&M placed four players on the all-conference team followed by Jackson State (three), Southern (two) and Prairie View A&M(one).

The All-Conference teams are selected from individuals with the highest average with a minimum of 19 games in SWAC play.  The 2011 SWAC Bowling Championship will be held Friday-Sunday, March 4-6.  The three-day event, hosted by the Holiday Bowl Fun Center in Birmingham, Ala., concludes Sunday, March 6 with the championship match at 1 p.m. The championship finale will be
broadcast tape-delayed on ESPNU on March 11 at 4:30 p.m. CST.
