Pittsburgh, PA-Texas Southern senior linebacker Dejuan Fulghum picked up his third Player of the Year award this season. Today, the Killeen, Texas native was named SBN Sports Mel Blount Defensive Player of the Year.
Fulghum finished 3rd in the SWAC in total tackles with 101, and led the league with 11.0 sacks. He finished second in the conference with 18.5 tackles-for-loss and one interception. Fulghum led the Tiger defense to a #1 ranking in the FCS in total defense.
Fulghum was also named SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and Pigskin Club SWAC Player of the Year.
Fulghum and two of his teammates, offensive lineman Charles Smith (6-7, 325, Sr., Largo, MD) and defensive end Marquis Jackson (6-5, 275, So., Inglewood, CA) were named SBN Sports All-Americans.
The players will be honored during the annual BCAA Awards Weekend February 11-12, 2010 in Orlando, Florida.
