The February 3rd men’s basketball contest between Tennessee State and Murray State has been selected for broadcast by ESPNU as part of the Ohio Valley Conference’s television package.
When the OVC announced its ESPN basketball schedule on Oct. 7, there were two dates on the schedule designated as “wild card” dates where the game to be aired was not selected until 21 days before the contest, making sure an attractive matchup was televised, instead of having to determine the full schedule a month before the season began. The other wild card matchup previously selected was Austin Peay and Tennessee Tech in a game that will be broadcast on ESPNU on January 20th.
Entering this weekend’s games (January 22nd), Murray State (12-5, 5-2 OVC) and Tennessee State (8-9, 5-2 OVC) are tied for second place in the OVC standings, one game behind Austin Peay. The two teams played earlier this season at Murray State with the Racers picking up a 64-53 victory. Murray State and Tennessee State have had several memorable games in recent years including having squared off against each other in the OVC Tournament in each of the past three seasons.
The game at the Gentry Center in Nashville will air at 8:00 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
The game was originally scheduled to be broadcast on the OVC’s regional television package and air on Wazoo Sports, CSS and ESPN3.com; but because the game was selected for ESPNU, the contest will no longer air on those outlets.
