Birmingham, Ala. – Jackson State’s Grant Maxey and Texas Southern’s Kevin Galloway have earned the league’s men’s basketball player of the week honors for games played Jan. 15 and 17.
Player of the Week
Grant Maxey – Jackson State – F, 6-7, 210, Sr., Toledo, Ohio — Maxey averaged 24.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game in the Tigers two contests during the week. JSU lost 66-62 at Texas Southern in a battle of the league’s last two unbeaten teams, and then defeated Prairie View A&M on the road 70-63. Maxey tied his career high scoring effort against Texas Southern with 30 points.
Newcomer of the Week
Kevin Galloway – Texas Southern – G, 6-7, 215, Sr., Sacramento, Calif. — Galloway led the Tigers to two victories on the week, 66-62 over Jackson State and 66-41 over Grambling, to vault TSU into first place in the SWAC. He nearly averaged a triple-double in the games (12.0 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 9.0 apg), and did record a triple-double vs. Grambling (10 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists).
