BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Grambling State (GSU) junior Justin Patton was named SWAC men’s basketball Player of the Week, while Jackson State (JSU) guard Jenniro Bush earned SWAC Newcomer of the Week honors.
Patton (G/F, 6-7, 200, Jr., Bossier City, La.) averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in games against North Texas and SMU. In Thursday’s decision at North Texas, Patton scored 26 points on 9-for-18 (.500) shooting from the field to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Bush (G, 6-8, 190, Jr., Starkville, Miss.) averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for JSU last week. He notched 14 points and four rebounds against Nebraska and had a game-high 23 points in Saturday’s 61-52 win over FIU. For the week, Bush was 14-of-28 (.500) from the field and eight-of-15 (.533) from beyond the arc.
