Texas Southern Tigers Captures Win Against Oregon State

TSU2Corvallis, OR-The Texas Southern Tigers mens basketball team got the first victory of the season in Corvallis, Oregon where they beat Oregon State University 66-60.

TSU’s first shot of the game set the stage for the Tigers and red-shirt freshman guard Lawrence Johnson-Danner who had a career high 25 points and his fourth consecutive game with double-digit scoring. Johnson-Danner started the game by hitting a three point shot, one of five he knocked down during the game.

Texas Southern held a brief 8-7 lead in the first half at the 17:02 mark, but they never trailed my more than single digits in the period. The Tigers ended the first half down 32-36.

TSU went on a 10-2 run to tie the game 44-44 with 11:29 on the clock. The game was tied again at 47, then the Tigers went up 50-47 when Nicos Norris hit a jumper from behind the arc.

The game was tied for a fifth time 55-55 at the 5:24 mark, then TSU went on a 7-0 run for a 62-55 advantage. Texas Southern hit their free throws down the stretch and captured their first win on the road.

Johnson-Danner’s 25 points were the game high. He also had two assists, one steal and one rebound. Daniel King had 10 points, four rebounds and one assist. Kevin Galloway and Aaron Clayborn controlled the boards for the Tigers with six rebounds each. Galloway also had 12 assists, six points and one steal.

The Tigers will face the University of Oregon on Tuesday, November 23 at 9:00pm (CST) in Eugene, OR
