SWAC has ‘long way to go’ to get out of the one-bid league stage, says commissioner

CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi Valley State claimed the SWAC Men’s Cross Country Championship title at the Choctaw Trails on Sunday. The Delta Devils took three of the top five spots in the men’s race, with Victor Bii winning with a time of 24:59.89.

Daniel Kibet (Mississippi Valley State) and Hezron Chepkwone (Mississippi Valley State) followed Bii with finishes of fourth and fifth place to claim first team all-conference honors. The Delta Devils won the men’s race with 24 points, while Grambling State took runner-up honors with 59 points. Alabama State finished third with 77 points.

The top finisher for the Tigers, Darwin Price, Jr. (25:42.60), came in behind the Hornets’ Jephtah Kenei, who was second with a time of 25:24.43.

Mississippi Valley State’s Charles Ruth earned Coach of the Year honors.
