Offensive Player of the Week

Anthony Mayes – WR, Jackson State (5-9, 180, Sr., Jackson, Miss.) Mayes averaged 23.0 yards per catch with 5 receptions for 115 yards and 3 touchdowns. He caught TD passes of 44, 44, and 10 yards as the Tigers defeated Alabama A&M, 30-14, in an important Eastern Division matchup. The Tigers are now tied for first place in the division with Alcorn State.

  • Kaderius Lacey (RB, AAMU) – Ran 22 times for 150 yards and 2 TDs, 1 catch for 28 yards
  • Donald Babers (RB, PVAM) – Rushed for 138 yards on 24 carries with 1 TD
  • Marcus White (RB, TXSO) – Carried the ball 26 times for 123 yards and 1 TD, 1 catch for 2 yards

Defensive Player of the Week

Dejuan Fulghum – LB, Texas Southern (6-1, 220, Sr., Killeen, Texas) Fulghum led the top defense in the SWAC with 8 total tackles (6 solo), 2.5 tackles-for-loss (11 yards), 1.5 sacks (8 yards), and a forced fumble.  The Tigers kept pace in the Western Division with a win at previous conference unbeaten Alcorn State, 30-20.

  • Brenan Gordan (LB, PVAM) – 5 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 1 QB hurry, and 1 interception return for a 79-yard TD
  • Anthony Balancier (LB, SUBR) – 7 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 3.0 TFL, 1 pass defended
  • Derrick Wilhite (DB, GRAM) – 5 tackles (4 solo), 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, 2 pass breakups
  • Jerryan Harris (LB, UAPB) – 14 tackles, 1 pass breakup, 1 QB hurry
  • Neal Pogue (DT, JKST) – 10 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks

Special Teams Player of the Week

Robert Hersh – PK, Texas Southern (5-10, 210, Jr., Pearland, Texas) Hersh connected on all 3 of his field goal attempts (31, 36, 30 yards) and recorded his first tackle of the season on the opening kickoff. The Tigers kept pace in the Western Division with a win at previous conference unbeaten Alcorn State, 30-20.

  • David Reed (K/P, JKST) – 5 punts, 41.6 yard average, long of 54, 2 inside the 20, 25-yard field goal
  • Zoltan Riazzo (PK, GRAM) – 3-3 on field goal attempts (29, 39, 36)
  • William Griswold (K/P, SUBR) – 4 for 4 in PATs, 37-yard field goal

Newcomer of the Week

Casey Therriault – QB, Jackson State (6-3, 205, Jr., Wyoming Park, Mich.) Therriault recorded his 5th straight 300-yard passing game with 330 yards on 18 of 31 attempts. He accounted for 4 touchdowns, throwing for 3 and scoring another on the ground. The Tigers defeated Alabama A&M, 30-14, in an important Eastern Division matchup.

  • Marquis Jackson (DE, TXSO) – 7 tackles (3 solo), 2.0 sacks, 4.0 TFL, 1 forced fumble
  • Anthony Carrothers (QB, GRAM) – Completed 14 of 23 passes for 210 yards and 1 TD, ran for 44 yards on 11 carries and 1 TD

JohnMark Henderson (CB, PVAM) – 7 tackles, 1.0 TFL, tipped pass which led to interception
