The Jackson State University football team held its first two-a-day practice session of the season on Wednesday. The Tigers continue to work in scorching conditions on the JSU practice field.

Head coach Rick Comegy was pleased with today’s workout sessions.

“The two-a-day went great,” said Comegy. “We had lots of emotion on the field this morning. The players are really pushing themselves. We will keep pushing them – that’s how you make a good, solid team.”

Comegy was excited about the play of both offensive and defensive lines play.

“The offensive line did well this morning, they held their own. The defensive line also played well, the determination was there on both sides.”

Running backs and wide receivers also received praise. B.J. Lee, Luther Edwards and Marcellos Wilder all caught the head coach’s attention.

“Lee had a tremendous morning. His speed is extraordinary. He went through the gauntlet like no one else I have ever seen. And Luther had some good hard runs. Defenders were bouncing off him this morning. Marcellos Wilder also had a great morning. He made some really nice catches.

“Things are happening,” said Comegy. “The entire team is progressing at a good rate. The more you do, the more things that need to be corrected you find, but this team is learning fast. We are doing pretty well right now.”
