PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Former Tougaloo College assistant coach Dawn Brown will join the Prairie View A&M University women’s basketball coaching staff for the 2010-11 season, PVAMU head women’s coach Toyelle Wilson announced on Wednesday.

A 2005 graduate of Jackson State University, Brown spent the previous four years as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Miss. While at Tougaloo, Brown played a major part in turning the program around as the Lady Bulldogs finished the 2009-10 season with their best record in 12 years and advanced to the semifinal round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in only the team’s second tourney appearance in school history. A specialist in coaching post players, Brown also helped develop the GCAC’s top rebounder as forward Victoria Jones led the league with an average of 11.3 boards per contest in 2010. In addition to her on-court duties, Brown was one of the most versatile members in the athletic department as she also served as Tougaloo’s Coordinator of Athletic Events and Assistant Sports Information Director.

Brown played collegiately at Atlanta Metropolitan College for two seasons before transferring to Jackson State University for her junior and senior campaigns. While at Jackson State, Brown helped the Lady Tigers capture the 2002-03 SWAC Regular Season Co-Championship and a SWAC Tournament semifinal berth after compiling a 15-3 conference mark.

Active in the community, Brown has done service projects for such organizations as the Jackson YMCA, Red Cross, Girls Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity along with serving as a motivational speaker for young females in the city of Jackson. She also holds memberships in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Order of Eastern Star, Black Colleges & Administrators and the Jackson State Alumni Chapter.

Brown holds a bachelor’s in Sociology from Jackson State and is currently pursuing a master’s in Sports Administration and Coaching also from Jackson State.
