A total of five student-athletes will represent Prairie View A&M University beginning on Thursday in the NCAA West Preliminary Round Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas on the campus of the University of Texas.
The men’s team will have four athletes competing with three participating as individuals and one relay team. Sprinter Jaryd Gray leads the way as the senior from Fort Worth, Texas is currently ranked 16th in the western region in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.88. Junior Robert Williams will also participate in the 200 while William Donelson will run the 400 hurdles. The quartet of Donelson, Williams, Brandon Hicks and Gray solidified a spot in the 4×400-meter relay as they currently rank 10th after running a season-best time of 3:08.21 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta on May 15.
On the women’s side, freshman Terracia Moody will be the lone participant for the Lady Panthers. A freshman from Longview, Texas, Moody will race in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes. Fellow freshman Margret Harris also posted a qualifying time in the 100 but will not participate in this weekend’s festivities.
The first round of the prelims begins on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with the final event scheduled for Saturday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium. At stake is a trip to the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship Finals in Eugene, Ore. next month.
