AAMU’s Pointer named Bowler of the Year; Veney named top Freshman
BOSSIER CITY, LA – Alabama A&M’s Addileen Pointer and Cynthia Veney earned top honors as the 2010 SWAC All-Conference Bowling teams were announced. Pointer was named SWAC Bowler of the Year, and Veney named Freshman of the Year.
Pointer posted a 191.9 average in 28 games this season. She had seven games of at least 200 pins, and bowled a season-high 276 during the West Roundup in Baton Rouge. Joining Pointer on the first team were teammates Tiffany Clark and Melanie DeCarlo, Texas Southern’s Chantel Jefferson and Southern’s Vanessa Caldwell.
Veney had a 178.6 average in 28 games this season. She posted six games of at least 200 pints, highlighted by a season-high 244 game, also in the West Roundup. Veney also earned second-team honors with Ashley Blakely of Jackson State, Brittany Bryant of Grambling State, Karmyn Mosley of Texas Southern and Shannon Pearson of Southern.
Alabama A&M had three players make the all-conference team. Defending Champion Southern and Texas Southern each had two players make the team, while Grambling State, Jackson State and Prairie View A&M each had one player on the all-conference team. The All-SWAC team is based on averages from conference regular season matches during two roundups held this season.
