BESSEMER, AL – Alabama State, Grambling State and Prairie View A&M clinched the final three spots in the SWAC Bowling Championship field as the 2010 SWAC East Bowling Roundup concluded Sunday at Holiday Bowl Center.
The Hornets clinched the final berth in the East with a win over Mississippi Valley State. Alabama State joins Alabama A&M and Jackson State in the East field of the 2010 SWAC Bowling Championship, March 5-7 in Shreveport, LA.
In the West, Grambling State won both its divisional matches Sunday, first over Prairie View A&M and later Texas Southern, to clinch a spot in the championship field. GSU’s win over Texas Southern eliminated TSU from contention and secured the final West berth for Prairie View.
This weekend was the second of two tournaments that shaped the field of six for the 2010 SWAC Bowling Championship as only the top three teams in each division qualified for the championship tournament.
Alabama A&M had the best overall record in the two roundups, posting a 23-5 record and going undefeated in divisional play at 12-0. Jackson State (17-11, 8-4), Alabama State (3-25, 3-9), and Mississippi Valley State (1-27, 1-11) rounded out the East Standings.
Southern and Prairie View A&M had the West’s best overall record at 18-10. SU went 9-3 in divisional play to lead the west. PV went 6-6 in divisional play along with Grambling State. GSU and Texas Southern went 16-12 overall, with TSU posting a 3-9 divisional record.
