SWAC Basketball Players of the Week – Feb. 16

G Katrich Williams, Alabama A&M; 5-8, SR; Chattanooga, TN
Williams tallied 22 points, five steals, three assists and two rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 73-63 win over archrival Alabama State last Saturday. Williams currently leads the conference in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game. This is her second Player of the Week honor this season.

F Hannah Kador, Southern; 5-10, JR; Baton Rouge, LA

Kador averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists as her Lady Jaguars posted a pair of wins last week. Kador had 18 points against both Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State to help solidify the wins, while moving SU to just a half game out of first place.

NEWCOMER

G NaDosha Strickland, Texas Southern; 5-9, JR; Bay Spring, MS

Strickland averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in games versus Grambling State and Jackson State last week. Strickland scored a career-high 23 points against Grambling State. This is her second Newcomer of the Week honor this season.

MEN

PLAYER

G Garrison Johnson, Jackson State, 6-5, 195; SR; Smyrna, GA

Johnson wins the award for the third time this season after averaging 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in two big road wins over Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. In JSU’s 70-67 overtime win over Texas Southern Monday night, Johnson tallied 27 points, 21 of them on seven 3s, and four rebounds to help extend the Tigers’ winning streak to eight games.

NEWCOMER

F Travele Jones, Texas Southern, 6-8, 205; JR; Los Angeles, CA

Jones wins the honor for the fifth time this season after averaging 15.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in games vs. Grambling State and Texas Southern. In his top scoring game of the week, Jones poured in 21 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in the 87-66 win over Grambling State Saturday.

Tanika Jackson (F, Alabama State) – recorded 29 points and 10 rebounds vs. Alabama A&M
Shaurice Miller (F, Alabama A&M) – tallied 12 points and nine rebounds vs. Alabama State
Kiara Ruffin (G, Alcorn State) – averaged 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals vs. Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Dominique Smith (G, Prairie View A&M) – averaged 22.5 points and 7.0 rebounds vs. Jackson State and Grambling
Trikeyia East (G, Texas Southern) – averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals vs. Grambling and Jackson State

Casey Cantey (G/F, Alabama A&M) – scored 18 points with six rebounds and three steals vs. Alabama State
Byron Walker (F/C, Alabama State) – scored 19 points with 10 rebounds vs. Alabama A&M
A.J. Spencer (G, Alabama State) – scored 10 points with three rebounds and five assists vs. Alabama A&M
Shannon Behling (F, Miss. Valley St.) – averaged 12.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals vs. Alcorn State and Southern
Tyrone Hanson (F, Jackson State) – averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists vs. Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern
Tim Meadows (G, Prairie View A&M) – averaged 13.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals vs. Jackson St. and Grambling
Brandon Webb (F, Prairie View A&M) – averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals vs. Jackson St. and Grambling
Deandre Hall (G, Texas Southern) – averaged 23.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists vs. Grambling and Jackson State
