Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee State University men’s basketball head coach John Cooper announced the dismissal of juniors Josh Sain, Erick Peguero, Darius Cox and Hamilton Nash due to violations of team policy.
“We have put in place team rules and policies that we feel will establish and strengthen our program,” said Head Coach John Cooper. “Repeated violations will not be tolerated. It is in our best interest to release those who are detrimental to the team’s progress.”
Sain was the team’s leading scorer averaging 13.7 ppg with four rebounds per game. Sain missed four games this season due to disciplinary actions. He has scored in double figures in 15 of 19 games played. Sain transferred in from Chipola Community College.
Cox, a two-year letter winner and OVC preseason selection, returned as the Tigers’ leading scorer from last season. Cox (7.5 ppg) was the team’s second leading rebounder with 5.3 per game. Cox missed three games this season for violating team rules.
Peguero (2.9 ppg) and Nash (1.5 ppg) were both transfers in their first year on the team. Nash joined the team as the NJCAA’s leading rebounder last year while making five starts this season with TSU. Peguero, who saw limited action, made only two starts this season.
The Tigers currently post a 4-19 overall record and are 1-10 in Ohio Valley Conference play.
TSU now has nine players on the roster including eight scholarship players and one walk-on. The team is left with two seniors, one junior, one sophomore, and five freshmen to carry out the season.
The Tigers host OVC opponent Jacksonville State at the Gentry Center on Tuesday, February 02, 2010.
