PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Thousands of Panther fans are expected to fill the historic Blackshear Stadium on Tuesday, Jan. 19 to celebrate Prairie View A&M University’s first SWAC football title in 45 years. Beginning at 12:30 p.m., the University marching band and cheerleaders will escort players and coaching staff through campus to Blackshear Stadium where the “official” championship ceremony will take place beginning at 1 p.m.
A festive parade will commence at the corner of L.W. Minor St. and University Dr., travel in front of the William “Billy” J. Nicks, Sr. Fieldhouse on O.J. Thomas St. and end at the Panthers home field – Blackshear Stadium. Fans are encouraged to line the parade route and follow the entourage to the ceremony.
The 2009 SWAC champions are expected to receive keys to the city from Prairie View Mayor Frank Jackson and hear congratulatory remarks from members of PVAMU’s 1964 championship team. Following the event, players and coaches will be on hand to sign autographs and take photos.
