Dallas, TX – Texas Southern’s win over Arkansas Pine-Bluff put the Tigers in a position to have their first winning season since 2000.
TSU’s 14-10 victory in the Dallas Lonestar Classic put them at 5-5 on the season (4-2 in conference) with only Southern left on the schedule. The Tigers went 8-3 in the 2000 under former head coach Bill Thomas.
The Tigers moved the ball at will against the Golden Lions…they just struggled to get the ball in the end zone.
TSU scored first in the first quarter when Martin Gilbert (#25) crossed the goal line on a three yard run. TSU was up 7-0.
Arkansas Pine Bluff got on the board when Josh Boudreaux (#8) hit Remo Gay (#11) on a nine yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to tie that game at 7.
Pine Bluff scored again when Carlos Reyes (#12) connected on a 23 yard field goal for a 10-7 advantage.
Texas Southern responded by moving the ball 73 yards in nine plays to score on an Arvel Nelson (#8) one yard run. That was the final score of the game and TSU captured their 5th win of the season.
The Tigers had 438 yards of total offense (182 rushing, 256 passing). Nelson completed 21 of 33 passes for 256 yards. He rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown.
