-The Texas Southern Tigers were coming off a big win against Idaho as they headed to Boulder, Colorado face Colorado in their second road game of the season.
This would be another tough battle in a hostile environment but the Tigers were up for the challenge.
TSU controlled the tip off and scored the first three points of the game. They played very close throughout the first half. Texas Southern was down by one point (32-33) with 3:44 left in the period. Colorado had a quick run and the half ended with TSU trailing 36-43.
The Tigers continued to fall behind and seven minutes into the second half they were down 46-61.
That’s when TSU made their move. Texas Southern went on a 23 to 10 point run to get with in two points of the lead (69-71) with 4:53 left to play.
The Tigers fought those last few minutes, but came up short. The final score TSU 77, Colorado 88.
“We came out and competed against a well coached team and I’m proud of my guys,” said head coach Tony Harvey, “We got to learn how to finish the game. We had turnovers at key points of the second half that could have turned the game around for us. We gave ourselves an opportunity, but shot ourselves in the foot.”
Travele Jones (#24) led the Tigers in scoring and rebounds with 31 points and nine boards. He also had three assists and one steal. DeAndre Hall (#1) had 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and one steal. Justin Ray (#2) had 12 points, three rebounds, one assists and one steal.
Texas Southern will face the University of North Colorado on Friday, at 5:30 pm (MT).
