SWAC Announces Football Players of the Week – Oct. 19

SWAC-LogoOFFENSIVE – QB K.J. Black, Prairie View A&M; 6-4, 225; JR; Louisville, KY

Black completed 17 of 23 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 38-0 win over Mississippi Valley State.

Black threw scoring passes of 28 and eight yards in the first quarter and eight yards in the second quarter to three different receivers as the Panthers won their third consecutive game.

DEFENSIVE – LB Cliff Exama, Grambling State; 6-0, 226; SO; North Miami Beach, FL

Recorded 15 tackles (9 solo), 1.5 sack, 2.5 TFL (-14 yards) in the Tigers’ 23-12 win at Alabama State.

Exama made a sack in the second quarter and combined with teammate Christian Anthony for a fourth-quarter sack.

NEWCOMER – DB Tim Berry, Southern; 5-10, 185; SO; St. Francisville, LA

Berry made four tackles along with two interceptions in helping Southern to a 55-23 win over Ft. Valley State.

Berry made both interceptions in the second quarter, the first pick in the end zone to thwart a Ft. Valley State drive, with the second coming on the final play of the first half.

SPECIALIST – WR Austin Nwokobia, Prairie View A&M; 6-5, 215; SR; Sugar Land, TX

Nwokobia blocked two punts in the first half that led to touchdowns in the Panthers’ win over Mississippi Valley State.

Nwokobia blocked a pair of punts in the first quarter that led to 14 Prairie View A&M points.

OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

RB Arnold Walker (Alcorn State) – Ran 14 times for 92 yards and two touchdowns vs. Alabama A&M

RB Frank Warren (Grambling State) – Had 12 carries for 91 yards with two touchdowns vs. Alabama State

RB Gary Holliman (Southern) – Rushed six times for a career high 115 yards and two touchdowns and caught one pass for six yards vs. Ft. Valley State

QB Arvell Nelson (Texas Southern) – Completed 18 of 31 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns and added 13 rushing yards vs. Jackson State.

DB Tomasi Fuller (Alcorn State) – Recorded 1.5 tackles (1 solo,0. 5 assists) 1.0 tackles for loss for 6 yards, and two interceptions for 36 yards vs. Alabama A&M

LB Adrian Hardy (Alabama State) – Led the team with nine tackles including a team-leading 2.5 TFL (-10 yards) with one sack and one forced fumble vs. Grambling State

DB Malcolm Palmer (Jackson State) – Recorded a game high 14 tackles (7 solo, 4 for loss) with 1.0 sack and one pass breakup vs. Texas Southern

LB Max Sencherey (Prairie View A&M) – Made 11 tackles with one forced fumble vs. Mississippi Valley State

LB Andre Coleman (Southern) – Made a game and team-high 13 tackles (one for loss) and two interceptions, including returning one 34 yards for a touchdown vs. Ft. Valley State

DL John Cole (Texas Southern) – Made three solo tackles (two for loss) with one sack vs. Jackson State

Alfred Moreland (Jackson State) -Had four kickoff returns for 69 yards and a long return of 30 yards.

WR Nick Andrews (Alabama State) – Posted 188 all-purpose yards including 82 on kickoff returns and 22 on punt returns in addition to catching six passes for 84 yards vs. Grambling State
