BIRMINGHAM – The Southwestern Athletic Conference will honor the memory of NCAA President Myles Brand by observing a moment of silence prior to the start of all home sporting events this weekend.
SWAC teams hosting games or matches today – Sunday, Sept. 20 will observe a moment of silence prior to the invocation and/or National Anthem in honor of Brand, who passed away Wednesday.
“We will pause to remember President Brand and his leadership of the NCAA,” SWAC Commissioner Duer Sharp said. “He was a well-respected administrator who by his actions displayed his care about putting the ‘student’ back in the phrase student-athlete. Even during his illness, he continued to attend meetings which showed his dedication to collegiate athletics. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”
