Grambling, LA— The Grambling State University Lady Tigers soccer team lost their home opener, 1-0, to the Lady Pioneers of Texas Woman’s University. Both teams had scoring opportunities during the first half but were unable to capitalize on them.
Lady Tiger’s Head Coach Tamura Crawley said, “First home game of the season we came out a little flat… we need to improve on connect to feet, moving the ball forward; not so defensively but aggressively to score.”
The second half began with both teams working hard to get in scoring range but none found their target. With dynamic goalies on both ends the competition was fierce. A foul by GSU inside the keeper’s box brought the only score of the game by Natalie Holovach (58:06) on a penalty kick.
GSU’s goalie, Cherie Silas, recorded 11 saves as she faced 18 shots with 12 on goal. TWU’s goalie, Nori Morgan, tallied four saves as she faced only four.
Crawley stated, “Without Cherie we would be in a lot of trouble, she is big time for us.”
