PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University Panther football team hit the gridiron on Monday night for their first practice of the 2009 campaign.
Greeted by a cool breeze throughout the practice, the Panthers had a spirited two-hour session that consisted of individual positional drills, special teams work, 7-on-7 and team workouts. Sixth-year head coach Henry Frazier III was overly pleased with the performance his team put forth throughout the practice.
“I was pleased with our intensity,” he said. “Some of our guys came in out of shape and I didn’t like that but our intensity was high and we definitely can build on that.”
Due to summer school still in session, the Panthers will practice in the evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. until Friday, Aug. 14. Once school concludes, practice time will shift to the afternoon.
“This is our second year with this type of schedule at the beginning of camp and we’ve been pretty successful,” said Frazier. “Having the late practice time allows our players not to miss class and focus on what they need to do in the classroom before they hit the field.”
Starting tomorrow (Aug. 11), live updates via “tweets” from practice will be available on Prairie View A&M’s Twitter site.
