grambling_logo.gifGrambling, LA — Grambling State Lady Tigers basketball head coach Donnita Drain Rogers announced today three signees for her first recruiting class at Grambling. Along with 10 returning players, nine of which are freshman and sophomores, from this past year’s squad the Lady Tigers will welcome Kiara Marshall (5-3, PG, Jr, Boilingbrook, IL), Alexis Watson (5-6, G, Houston, TX) and Bianca MCCowan (6-2, F, Lake Providence, LA).

Marshall, a junior college transfer from Independence Community College in Kansas, will bring her three point prowess to the Tigers next season. Marshall became the most prolific 3-point shooter in ICC women’s basketball history this season after nailing five treys in a victory over Garden City. In her final season Marshall made 98 three-pointers, picked off 50 steals with 76 assists, while shooting 80% from the free throw line. Marshall averaged nearly 15 points per game.

Alexis Watson, The Fort Bend Chronicle Player of the Year and an All Area Greater Houston Top Player, will join the Lady Tigers after having a stellar senior season in which she averaged 23.0 ppg with 80 steals. Watson scored 1,000 plus points her last two years at Travis High School.

McCowan, a scholar athlete that was a member of the National Honor Society, led her team in double doubles and blocked shots this season. She has been a PMTV-Channel 12 Sports Player of the Game two of her last three seasons.

The Lady Tigers finished the 2008-09 season with 8 wins and made the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament. With such a young but experienced group returning, which lost nine games by three points or less last season, coupled with some new faces Coach Drain Rogers has high expectations for her Lady Tigers next season.
