pvlogo.gifThree members of the Prairie View A&M University Golf Team will participate in the annual PGA Minority Golf Challenge in Port St. Lucie , Fla. beginning on Friday.

Representing Prairie View A&M at the three-day, 54-hole stroke play Championship are golfers Aziza Glass, Widyanti “Penny” Sanjoto and Jeremy Williams. Glass and Sanjoto will participate in the NCAA Women’s Division I Individual Competition while Williams will compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s Individual Competition.

Prairie View A&M head golf coach Alvin Blake feels strongly about his players’ chances in the prestigious challenge. “I expect all of them to do well this weekend representing Prairie View at the Championship as we’re proud to participate,” said Blake. “Penny and Aziza are both coming off outstanding performances at the SWAC Tournament as they earned All-SWAC Honors while leading us to our best finish (third) in school history. Jeremy has been my most consistent golfer all season long on the men’s side and was the team’s top finisher at the SWAC Tournament.”

A total of 38 colleges and universities are scheduled to participate in the three-day competition that will be contested on the Tom Fazio-designed Ryder and Wanamaker Courses at the PGA Golf Club. The Championship will consist of four divisions: NCAA Men’s Division I and II, and NAIA Men’s and Women’s. In addition, there is an Individual Invitational competition for minority men and women contestants. The Individual Invitational is open to collegiate golfers who are of African-American, Hispanic-American, Native or Alaskan American, Asian or Pacific Island American descents.

In addition to the Championship, the trio will also visit the Business of Golf Career Expo at the PGA Education Center . During the Career Expo, they’ll have the opportunity to learn about employment possibilities in the golf industry from leading golf organizations and companies.
