Alexandria, LA – Alabama State’s men and Jackson State’s women’s team lead after Day 1 of the 2009 SWAC Golf Championships at Links on the Bayou Golf Course.
The Hornets shot a team score of 295, seven shots over par to lead by seven strokes over defending champion Jackson State (302) and 11 shots over Texas Southern (306) in the 54-hole competition.
Texas Southern’s Devaughn Robinson had the low round of the day with a 1-under 71, highlighted by a 33 on the back 9.
On the women’s side, the defending champion Lady Tigers of Jackson State shot 326 and have a commanding lead over second-place Alabama State (381) in the 36-hole competition.
Jennifer Sells of Jackson State had the low round for the women on Monday, shooting a 5-over 77 (40-37).
Action resumes Tuesday at 8 a.m. for both the men and women’s teams.
