PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The 2009 Angel City Classic featuring Prairie View A&M and Morehouse College, scheduled for September 19, has been canceled.
“Our participation in the Angel City Classic has been a great experience for our student-athletes and coaches,” said Prairie View A&M Director of Athletics Fred Washington. “We were disappointed to hear that the event would not take place this year but are excited about the relationships we’ve formed and the opportunities to work with that group again in the future.”
The cancellation leaves the Panthers with nine games at this point. However, Washington anticipates adding a 10th game in the coming days.

I am disappointed to learn of the cancellation. For those of us who are Southerners and now living here in California, we look forward to this event with much anticipation. We are able to show our children, grandchildren as well as all Black children who have no idea about the wonderful historically Black colleges and universities in the South and on the East Coast. You bring an important piece of history to us via the Angel City Classics. Please, hope to see you in 2010!
It is unfortunate the game was cancelled I have only attended the game twice and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and energy. I looked forward to bringing my family back. There is nothing else like the angel classic in the city of Angels.
I was so disappointed to find the game had been canceled. It truly is one of the only opportunities for us West Coast folks to engage in some true southern sportsmanship and band music at its finest. I alos coach a hih school drill team and have been made this one of our annual team outtings – their hearts literally sank when I told them we weren’t going this year. It has been this even alone which sparked a desire for some of my juniors and seniors to apply to some historically black colleges… and when they see how ya’ll do it, it truly makes my job easier!
I sincerely hope you all come back in 2011!!
