Houston, TX–The Texas Southern University Women’s basketball program is projected to have one of the top HBCU recruiting classes of 2009 according to Allstar Girls Report (ASGR). New ranks show TSU second among black college NCAA Division I programs. The 143 national ranking (out of all 305 ranked NCAA Division I schools) also puts the Texas Southern women’s basketball far above all other Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) 2009 recruiting classes.
Here are the members of the TSU 2009 recruiting class and their rankings.
#311 Tanija Beasley (5-9, shooting guard)
#566 Krissic Harper (5-4, point guard)
#64 Brittany Hilliard (5-11, shooting guard) JUCO transfer
#69 Sara Stewart (5-10, shooting guard) JUCO transfer
Transfer Jackie Sanders (6-2, power forward) from Kentucky
ASGR says “This class will give the Texas Southern program a real boost. Beasley and Stewart are both good athletes who know how to score, and they will be on the court immediately. Harper can run the show, and she can get to the rim.”
North Carolina A&T ranked first for HBCU’s at 121.
The recruiting rankings are based on national rank, high school, junior college and collegiate transfer players. All verbal commitments, which are non-binding until November signing day, are included among the list.
