Albuquerque, NM – The Southern University women’s basketball team fell to the Lobos of the University of New Mexico Lobos 72-44 in the first round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. The contest was played at The Pit on the campus of New Mexico.
Southern (16-14, 11-7 SWAC) was lead by senior Deidra Jackson and sophomore Tiffany Foster who each scored eight points. Sophomore Jamie Floyd finished the game with seven rebounds and six points. Foster also pulled in six rebounds.
Shooting was the name of the game as UNM shot 43.9 percent from the floor to 28.8 percent for Southern. The Lobos grabbed a 4-2 lead at the 16:59 mark and never released it. The Jaguars’ best run in the game came at the start of the second half when a 6-0 dash cut UNM’s 38-15 halftime lead to 38-21.
