pvlogo.gifPRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Fresh off their second SWAC Tournament Championship title in school history, the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers was tabbed the Oklahoma City Region’s 16th seed and will take on top-seeded Oklahoma in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Sunday, March 22 at the Carver-Hawkeye in Iowa City, Iowa.

Prairie View A&M (23-10), currently on a 19-game winning streak and winners in 21 of its past 23 contests, earns its second NCAA Tournament trip in school history and third consecutive trip to the postseason after winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s automatic bid this past weekend.

The Lady Panthers will take on the Sooners, who finished as the Big 12 champions during the regular season before falling in the conference tournament semifinals to Texas A&M. Sunday’s match-up will mark the seventh time in school history that both schools have met with the Sooners holding a 6-0 advantage.

Led by fourth-year head coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, the Lady Panthers are 0-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with their last appearance against North Carolina two years ago in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The winner of the Prairie View A&M-Oklahoma contest will move on to face either Iowa or Georgia Tech on Tuesday, March 24.

Game times will be announced later this week. The tournament will be televised live on the ESPN family of networks.
