OFFENSIVE – QB Greg Dillon, Grambling State; 6-0, 200; SO; Bogalusa, LA
Dillon totaled 287 yards and two touchdowns in the Tigers’ 29-14 win over Southern to clinch the SWAC Western Division title. Dillon completed 9-of-13 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown of 11 yards in the second quarter, and rushed 26 times for 151 yards with a one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as Grambling State to its ninth straight win.
DEFENSIVE – LB Keefe Hall, Grambling State; 6-2, 225; SR, Houston, TX
Hall made 12 tackles (eight solo) and had one interception in the Tigers’ win over Southern. With the Tigers clinging to a one-point lead, Hall made a fourth-quarter interception and returned it 30 yards to set up a GSU touchdown on the next play.
SPECIALIST – K Andrew Lyons, Alabama State; 5-8, 170; FR, Panama City, FL
Lyons made both PAT attempts and a 38-yard field goal in the Hornets’ 17-13 upset victory over previously-undefeated Tuskegee. Lyons, who made PATs in the first and second quarters, made a crucial 38-yard field goal with 1:39 to play in the game. It was Lyons’ first field goal attempt of the season.
NEWCOMER – DB Donovan Masline, Alabama State; 5-8, 160; FR, Jacksonville, FL
Masline made eight tackles, one interception, and two pass breakups in the Hornets’ win over Tuskegee. Masline made an interception on the final play of the first half in the end zone to halt a Tuskegee drive as they were held to a season-low 13 points.
