grambling_logo.gifPostseason play tips off for the Grambling State University Lady Tiger volleyball team on Friday morning as they host Alcorn State in the first round of the 2008 SWAC Volleyball Tournament held on the campus of Grambling State.

Grambling (22-7, 8-0 SWAC), the top seed from the SWAC West, will host Alcorn State (1-20, 1-7 SWAC) at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 in the Assembly Center. The Lady Tigers enter this weekend’s event as one of the hottest teams in the nation with a 19-match winning streak in addition to winning 21-of-22 matches. Even though Alcorn State plays in the SWAC East, Grambling is pretty familiar with its first round foe as they defeated ASU twice this season.

Matches will take place in both the Assembly Center and Men’s Memorial Gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Grambling, La. beginning on Friday, Nov. 14. After a 9 a.m. match in both venues on Saturday, Nov. 15, the tournament shifts to the Assembly Center at 11 a.m. with the championship match scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The winner of the 8-team, double elimination tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

A one-day pass for next week’s tournament costs $10 for adults and $4 for kids (6-13). A tournament pass, which is good for admission to both days of the event, will cost $15 for adults and $6 for kids. Children ages 5 and under will be admitted free.

Fans interested in purchasing tickets can do so at the GSU Ticket Office, which is open Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will also be sold on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, please contact ticket manager Ada Joseph at 318-274-2625 or [email protected].
