The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced today that the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff head football coach Monte Coleman has been reprimanded for his post-game comments regarding the officiating during the Golden Lions’ football game vs. Jackson State on Saturday, October 11, 2008.
In investigating the incident, the Conference Office spoke with Coleman, UAPB Athletic Director Louis “Skip†Perkins, and game officials from last week’s contest. After reviewing of all information, as well as SWAC bylaws and regulations, the appropriate recourse at this time is a letter of reprimand from the Conference Office. While this reprimand does not include a suspension, future incidents could result in a fine and/or suspension from athletic competition.
“After our review of the situation, we have determined that a public reprimand is the appropriate course of action,†Commissioner Duer Sharp said. “As with all athletic competitions, emotions can and do run high, but that does not condone the comments of Coach Coleman. We hold our coaches and administrators to the highest standards and we expect them to conduct themselves in a way which brings creditability and professionalism to the Conference.â€
