Itta Bena, Miss – Pouring rains didn’t damper the spirits or hinder the Mississippi Valley State offensive unit as they found their groove today in the second scrimmage of the 2008 preseason camp. Quarterback Ryan Burciaga continued with a consistent strong showing leading the first unit 80-yards down the field on the opening drive and capping it off with a one yard touchdown plunge. Ryan came into camp as our quarterback and he is doing the things he needs to do consistently to be our quarterback.  It’s his job to lose,†said head coach Willie Totten. “Semaj (Williams) and Paul (Roberts) came into camp looking good and throwing the ball well, but as now Ryan has carried those things over from the spring that put him in the top spot.â€
Also showing bright spots in the Delta Devils offense were running backs Terrance Paige and Chris Watkins, who went for over 50-yards on the ground. Defensive back turned receiver, Alvin McKlerkin, showed that he too should figure into the mix of things as a big threat receiver, picking up over 60 yards offense alternating between first and second team. “The guys continue to show a group effort. I can’t single just one guy out as someone standing out because it’s everyone, every group,†said Totten.
Valley will host its season opener August 30th when they face the Steers of Texas College.
