Alabama A&M’s offense exploded Saturday night in the annual Fan Day Scrimmage as the Bulldogs posted 56 points and over 400 yards of total offense for the Maroon team. The scrimmage signaled the end of preseason camp with classes to begin on Monday and regular practice sessions set to start on Tuesday.
Sophomore quarterback Kevin Atkins showed why coach Anthony Jones and his staff have entrusted the offense to a young man who has not yet completed a pass in a game for the Bulldogs. Atkins connected on 12 of 22 attempts for 316 yards and five scores against the White team defense. Kyle Lacy was 6-7 for 98 yards and two scores after replacing Atkins in the third quarter.
Atkins hooked up with Thomas Harris on scoring passes of 34 and 75 yards. Harris caught five balls for 181 yards and those two scores.  Nate Baxter made six catches for 106 yards and four touchdowns. Rashad Johnson had three grabs for 87 yards and a score.
Defensive lineman Frank Kearse highlighted the defensive reel with a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown. Whitney Garrett recorded two sacks and three tackles-for-loss. For the White team, Clarence Morris picked off two Maroon passes, while Rico Porch recovered a fumble.
