The Southwestern Athletic Conference will hold its annual Kickoff Luncheon & Media Day on Tuesday, July 22, 2007. The media activities will be held at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame while the luncheon will take place at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex in downtown Birmingham.
The media day activities will begin at 9 am with interview sessions from the head coaches and student athletes from all ten conference institutions. Following the interview sessions, the kickoff luncheon will begin at 11 am with remarks from the Conference Office and the announcement of the preseason honors and predicted order of finish. Up-to-date news and information will be available for the nationally televised MEAC-SWAC Football Challenge on August 31 between Jackson State University and Hampton University.
Limited tickets are available to the public for $30 and can be obtained by contacting the Conference Office at the SWAC Office (205) 251-7573. Media reservations will begin next week; registration forms can be found on the conference website and requested from the SWAC Media Relations office.
SWAC Youth Football Clinic
In conjunction with the kickoff luncheon, the fourth SWAC Youth Football clinic will take place on Monday, July 21, 2007 at Birmingham’s Legion Field from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The three-hour event will contain drill and instruction for Birmingham-area youth and will be conducted by SWAC football coaches. SWAC Thursday Night Football Contests
In partnership with ESPNU, three SWAC football games have been moved to Thursday night contests. On September 18, Arkansas-Pine Bluff will take on Alcorn State at 6:30 pm Central. On September 25, Alabama State will travel to Mississippi Valley State for a 7:00 pm kickoff. Texas Southern will host Grambling State on November 20 with the game set for an 8:00 pm start.
More games to be broadcast regionally and nationally are expected to be announced.
