JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Grant Maxey and Garrison Johnson scored 14 points each as Jackson State dealt Alcorn State its sixth straight loss with an 81-72 victory Saturday night. Maxey, the team’s leading scoring, and Johnson came off the bench for the second straight game after coach Tevester Anderson demoted the entire starting lineup.  Jackson State (8-15, 6-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) led from the opening tip to win its second straight game.
De’Suan Dixon scored 11 points and Darrion Griffin added 10 as Jackson State led 38-28 at halftime and by as much as 65-43 with 8:40 left.  Jackson State shot 43 percent and forced 23 Alcorn State (3-20, 2-8) turnovers.  Alex Owumi led Alcorn State with 23 points, Troy Jackson added 22 and Anthony Searcy scored 10.
JSU will return to action Feb. 11 when the Tigers host Southern at the Lee E. Williams AAC. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
