JACKSON, Miss. – In front of a crowd of 5,501 fans the Jackson State Lady Tiger basketball team defeated a tough Alcorn State Lady Braves team 56-45 at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
Three Lady Tigers scored in double-figures to lead Jackson State (10-10, 8-2 SWAC). LaSharee Christian scored a team-high 14 points. She also recorded three steals and dished out three assists. Carena Easley followed with 12 points, four assists and four steals. Erlexis Cooper came off the bench to chip in 10 points and six rebounds.
 Shawntawnee Collins led the lady Braves with 15 points and Kenisha Daniels followed with 11.
The game was tied 21-21 at halftime. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Braves 35-24 in the second half. For the game JSU shot 37% from the field and Alcorn shot 46%. JSU forced 31 Lady Braves turnovers and out rebounded Alcorn 31-24.
JSU will return to action Feb. 11 when the Lady Tigers host Southern in SWAC action for “Think Pink” week. The game will be aired on ESPNU. Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm.
