Itta Bena, MS. The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes basketball team found their grove tonight as they put back-to-back wins together for the first time since early December in a, 72-60, win over the Lady Hornets of Alabama State.
In a game that started off with the Lady Hornets opening up a 13-5 lead in the opening minutes, the two teams would battle back and forth midway through the period before the Devilettes could eek out a 30-29 lead at the half a lead that would never be relinquished.
Valley was led tonight by Portia Wilson’s 18 points and eight rebounds. Amanda Hammond turned in 14 points, three assists and two rebounds. Keyanna Mayfield and Latoia Mackey added 13 and 10 points respectively.
The Lady Hornet’s Shantae Robinson led all scorers with 21 points. She also had seven assists and four rebounds. Kimberly Davis added 12 points, while Assunta Fulgham turned in nine points and two assists.
The Devilettes will return to action Monday night when they host the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M at 5:30 p.m. in the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex on the MVSU campus
