Tennessee State University , head football coach James Webster announced the names of twenty players who have signed to play for the “Big Blue†football team.
“We are delighted to announce some quality athletes will be joining us next year, “ said Webster. He continued, “We have been able to add some talented young men to our program for the upcoming campaigns.â€
Fourteen players are from the state of Tennessee , and eight are from the Nashville Metropolitan area. “We concentrated on our city and state this year, “ says Webster, “ there is a wealth of local talent that we felt we wanted to join our program. We were successful in showing them the advantage of playing here at Tennessee State University .†Some of the top area players to sign with the Tigers were Michael Becker- QB, 6-1, 190 lb (Nolensville – Ravenwood, HS), Stevie Shelton- DB, 6-1, 185 lb (Nashville – Stratford, HS), Edward Sanders, Jr.- DL, 6-3, 275 lb (Nashville – McGavock, HS) and Christopher Gray – WR, 6-1, 185 lb (LaVergne – LaVergne HS) and Roger Gaines, III – OL, 6-7, 320 lbs (Whitehouse – Whitehouse, HS).
Four players hail from the state of Florida and include standouts such as Johnny Butts, Jr.,- DL, 6-4, 265 lb (Altamonte Springs – Lake Brantley) and Keyron Hampton – Nose Tackle, 6-1, 280 lb (Reddick – N. Marion HS). One Florida native, Marcus Broxie-DE, 6-3, 240 lb ( Tampa ) is a transfer from West Virginia .
Two other signees Deonte Kilgore and Jamal Coleman, come from Georgia and Indiana respectively. Coleman comes in from Iowa Central CC.
