Itta Bena, Ms – It was a cold night in the Delta but not in the R.W. Harrison HYPER Complex on the Mississippi Valley State campus as the Delta Devils roasted in-state rivals Jackson State, 81-53, before a standing room only crowd of 4, 798.
From the onset the game appeared to be paced for a classic battle to the wire with the lead going back and forth and the Tigers even holding a 31-30 lead with just over three minutes in the first half. However a 7-0 run by Valley in the half’s final three minutes would put the Delta Devils up for good as they took 38-31 lead into the break.
Tonight was a rare opportunity for every Delta Devil to get in the game as five players scored in double figures. They were led by Larry Cox’s double-double as he turned in 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Chris Watson and Michael Clark had 15 points each, with seven and five rebounds respectively.
