Itta Bena, Miss. — The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State
University improved their Southwestern Athletic Conference record to 3-1 in a thrilling come from behind victory over the Lady Braves of
Alcorn State University tonight in the R. W. Harrison HPER Complex on the MVSU campus
Although both teams shot poorly from the field the Lady Braves led
throughout most of the game including a 31-29 lead at the half.Â
However, a Devilettes surge midway through the second half proved to
be enough as the Devilettes posted a come from behind win for the
second straight weekend.
Valley was led by Ashley Howard’s double-double as she turned in 17
points, 15 rebounds and three steals. Portia Wilson added 14 points
and five rebounds, while Jessica Williams chipped in 10 points.
Lady Braves Shawntawnee Collins also posted a double-double as she led
all scorers with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Corneshia Hollis and
Tanika Nunez added 10 and eight points respectively.
The Devilettes (8-6) will return to action Monday evening when they
host the Lady Jaguars of Southern University. The game is set for a
5:30 p.m. tip-off in the Harrison Complex.
