HOUSTON, Texas- The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers captured their fifth consecutive victory of the season with a 71-48 win over the Texas Southern Lady Tigers.

 

PVAMU placed four players in double figures with guard sophomore guard Candice Thomas leading the way with 23 points.

 

Thomas shot the ball with precision shooting an impressive 10-of-16 from the floor.

 

Prairie View A&M took a 15 point lead into intermission at 44-29. In the second half PVAMU held the Lady Tigers to just 19 points which proved to be a key difference in the game.

 

Overall TSU shot 27 percent from the field which included a 3-of-25 showing from the floor in the second half.

Defense has proven to be the backbone of the Lady Panthers attack as Prairie View A&M has held its last two conference opponents to 28 and 48 points respectively.

Twila Stokes provided Prairie View A&M with a huge spark off the bench contributing 14 points and six rebounds. Gaati Werema and Shavonne Smith added 12 and 11 points apiece in what was an overall complete performance by PVAMU.

The Lady Panthers will look to capture their sixth straight as they get set to travel to

Jackson, Miss. to face the Jackson State Lady Tigers. The game is scheduled for Saturday January 19th, at 5:30 p.m. at the Lee E. Williams Assembly Center.
