PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M University and head football coach Henry Frazier III have come to terms on a contract extension that will keep Frazier on “The Hill†thru 2012.
Upon initially assuming the reins of head football coach Frazier was given the difficult task of turning around a program that at one point had lost an NCAA record 80-plus games. In his fourth season at the helm of the program Frazier led the Panthers to their first winning season in over thirty years (1976).
“Being able to sign coach Frazier to a contract extension brings stability to a program that hasn’t had much stability over the past thirty-one years,†said PVAMU Athletics Director Charles McClelland. “At this point we’re very pleased with the direction our football program is headed in. We hope that coach Frazier will be able to continue his good fortune by leading us to a championship in the near future.â€
With a 30-20 victory over Alabama A&M this past weekend the Panthers added to their list of significant milestones winning the most games by a Panther team since 1964. During the 1964 campaign the Panthers were crowned Southwestern Athletic Conference Champions as well as Black College National Champions.
“In the field of coaching job security is important, said Frazier.†Anytime you’re awarded with a contract extension for your hard work on and off the field it mean’s a lot. President George Wright and Athletics Director Charles McClelland have invested a lot of confidence in me and I’m extremely happy to know that I’ll be here for the next four seasons serving as head coach.â€
