mvsulogo.jpgItta Bena, Miss. — Freshman quarterback Ryan Burciaga had a career game tonight in the Delta Devils final home football game. But it wasn’t enough as Mississippi Valley State fell, 20-16, to the Hornets of Alabama State.

After falling behind 13-0 in the first quarter the Delta Devils made their way to the scoreboard on a 45 yard pass to receiver Cameron Russ with 9:13 remaining in the half. Valley would pick up two more points on a safety, when the Hornets center snapped the ball out of the back of the endzone on a botched punt attempt.

Leading 13-9 Alabama State would return a blocked field goal attempt 69 yards for a score as time expired in the first half. Delta Devils running back Ronald Brewer scored on a three-yard run with 9:10 remaining in the game.

Burciaga finished the game completing 20-of-39 passes for 339 yards and a score. The Delta Devils would have two receivers eclipse 100 yards in the game as Cameron Russ had 132 yards on five receptions and Brandon Stargell 128 yards on seven catches. Defensively lineman Ronald Green led all tacklers with 11. Linebacker Rory Malone had 10 tackles, while Sam Irons added nine tackles with a forced fumble and recovered fumble.

Valley (2-8, 2-7 SWAC E) will wrap up it season next weekend when they travel to Savannah, GA to face Savannah State.
