MEAC Football Weekly Honors – Week 9

meaclogo.jpgSenior running back Kevin Beverly of Hampton University and Ronnie McCullough of Bethune-Cookman University were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Football Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Nick Mayant of Bethune-Cookman was named Rookie of the Week, while Nathaniel Richardson of South Carolina State and Peter Gaertner of Delaware State earned Offensive Lineman and Special Teams’ Player of the Week honors respectively.

Beverly (RB, 5-11, 218, Sr., New Carrollton, MD) rushed for a season-high 158 yards on 30 attempts with three touchdowns against the Winston-Salem State Rams. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry.
McCullough (LB, 6-1, 230, Sr., Tampa, Fla.) collected 16 tackles, 10 solo, in the Wildcats win over N.C. A&T State. He also picked up one tackle for a loss and a pass deflection. This is McCoullough’s second straight and third overall MEAC weekly defensive honor of the season.

Mayant (LB, 6-0, 200, Fr., Ft. Meyers, Fla.) tallied seven tackles and one for a one-yard loss against the N.C. A&T Aggies.

Richardson (OL, G, 6-4, 305, r-Sr., Mt. Pleasant, SC) paved the way for the Bulldogs to amass 418 total offensive yards, including 325 yards rushing, in S.C. State’s 17-16 loss to Delaware State. He also recorded four domination blocks, three pancake blocks and six cut blocks.

Gaertner (PK, 6-0, 180, Sr., Berlin, Germany) kicked the game winning 38-yard field goal with two seconds on the clock to seal the win for the Delaware State Hornets, 17-16, over S.C. State. He also converted on two PAT’s and posted five points in the win. This is Gaertner’s second consecutive Special Teams Player of the Week honor.

Other Top Performances

Corey Council (B-CU) rushed for 77 yards on seven attempts, and caught six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown in the Wildcats win over N.C. A&T State.

Johnny Culbreath (SCSU) was an integral part of the Bulldogs’ offense that netted 418 total offensive yards, 325 on the ground, and four domination blocks against Delaware State.

Marquez Davis (NSU) notched a career-high 16 tackles, eight solo, in the Spartans loss to Howard.

Theodore Graham, IV (HOW) tallied four tackles, two unassisted, with a fumble recovery as the Bison upset Norfolk State, 17-10.

Rudy Hardie (HOW) compiled five tackles, three sacks for a loss of 21 yards and two quarterback hurries in Howard’s win over Norfolk State.

Rashad Howard (NSU) averaged 37 yards on three kicks (111 total yards) in the Spartans’ game against Howard.

Will Ford (SCSU) went over 100-yards for the third straight game of the season with 161 rushing yards on 28 carries to set up three Bulldog scores against DSU.

Justin Keable (P, 6-0, 180, Fr., Deland, Fla.) recorded 200 punting yards, including a team-high 50 yard kick for the Wildcats last week.

Reubin Mordecia III (B-CU) graded out at 92-percent and helped the Wildcats to 375 yards of total offense in their win over the Aggies.

Shaheer McBride (DSU) caught six passes for 91 yards and one touchdown in the Hornets win over S.C. State.

Kofi Nkrumah (MSU) collected a game-high 13 tackles, six solo, and one sack for a five yard loss in the Bears win over Florida A&M.

Ryan Robinson (DSU) tallied seven tackles, all solo, and forced a fumble that led to the Hornets winning field goal against the S.C. State Bulldogs.

Randall White (HOW) graded out at 98-percent on all blocking assignments as he aided the Bison to 314 total offensive yards.

Tony White (SCSU) posted 11 tackles, two and a half for a loss of 19 yards, and two sacks against the Hornets.

Jarahn Williams (HOW) recorded three catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns in the Bison’s win over Norfolk State.
