Offensive Lineman of the Week:
Oliver Pazdry, JR, LG, Shaw, 6-5, 290, Brooklyn, NY
Pazdry aided the Bears in collecting 402 total yards on 70 plays; including three passing touchdowns and one rushing TD. Shaw beat Livingstone for its fourth consecutive win, 35-7.
Receiver of the Week:
Davian Richards, SO, WR, Virginia State, 6-1, 190, Orlando, FL
VSU Trojan, Richards hauled in three passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns, and also completed a 55-yard scoring strike to Brian Berry for another touchdown.
Offensive Back of the Week:
Brandon Fields, SR., RB, Elizabeth City State, 5-9, 205, Wilson, NC
Fields posted career highs in carries (30) and yards (168), as his total net yardage eclipsed that of the Virginia Union rushing game (144 total rushing yards). He finished the day with a 9-yard rushing touchdown, a long of 25 yards and an average of 5.6 yards per carry. The Vikings defeated the previously unbeaten Panthers 23-14 in Richmond on Saturday.
Defensive Lineman of the Week:
Anthony Wall, SO., LB, Fayetteville State, 6-2, 197, Fayetteville, NC
FSU Bronco, Wall had seven total tackles including two tackles for 11 yards in losses, an interception for four yards, two sacks for 11 yards and two QBH in the Broncos’ 13-10 win over SAC.
Defensive Back of the Week:
Derrick Downey, SO., DB, Elizabeth City State, 6-0, 190, Rocky Mount, NC
In the Vikings 23-14 win over #20 Virginia Union, Downey registered 5 solo tackles, forced a fumble, which he recovered and returned 42 yards for a touchdown. Downey also had 2 pass breakups.
Rookie of the Week:
Martellus Braxton, FR., DE, Shaw, 6-4, 225, Richmond, VA
Braxton helped the Bears hold the Blue Bears to accumulate less than 50 yards in total offense. He had four total tackles (two solo, two assists 1.5 for 15 yards lost) and two sacks for 14 yards lost. He helped to hold Livingstone in a shutout of the second and fourth quarters.
Specialty Player of the Week:
Eric Lamoureux, SR, P/K, Fayetteville State, 6-0, 188, Roxbury, NH
Lamoureux had the game winning 23-yard field goal in the Broncos’ win over Saint Augustine’s. He also had a field goal of 27 yards. Lamoureux punted 8 times for 346 yards; his longest 57 yards. Five kicks were inside the 20. His punting average was 43.2 yards per kick.
Coach of the Week:
Waverly Tillar, Elizabeth City State University
After a slow start, the Vikings have reeled off 3 straight wins to take possession of first place in the CIAA Eastern Division. A graduate of and former player for the Virginia Union Panthers, Tillar returned to his hometown to hand his alma mater their first loss of the 2007 football season.
