Itta Bena, Miss. — In what may have oddly been one of their better performances this season the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils football team suffered a 58-7 defeat to the #1 ranked Bisons of North Dakota State University.
It was High School, Community and Take-A-Kid-To-The-Game Day on the small Itta Bena, Miss. campus and fans young and old poured in to support the Delta Devils as they faced the Bisons for only the second time ever.
The first quarter proved to be a rocky start for Valley as NDSU came out firing on all cylinders jumping to a 22-0 lead. In the second quarter Valley defense regrouped holding the Bisons to only one score as they took a 30-0 lead into the break. In the second half the Delta Devils continued a strong showing allowing only one touchdown in each quarter.
The Delta Devils lone score of the game when sophomore quarterback Ryan Burciaga, making his first career start, found receiver Rob Fox alone in the back of the end zone for his first collegiate touchdown.
Offensively the Delta Devils were led by running back Ronald Brewer who had 87 yards on 22 carries.
The Defense was led by Sam Irons, Pierre Marshall and Kevin Golden, who each recorded eight tackles
Valley (1-5, 1-4 SWAC E), will remain at home next weekend as they play host to the Tigers of Texas Southern University and celebrate Homecoming 2007.
